The idea of ‘flaming June’ seems to have come and gone and today seems to be a day of lurking mist and coldness. Hopefully better, warmer and clearer days lie ahead of us.
This week’s gospel, the parable of the mustard seed, gives us the essence of the Pentecost season- it is about growth in the Lord. With His care and our active co-operation the seed of faith we have been given will prosper and flourish. This walks also side by side with the closing theme of Colossians which we have ben reading in Bible Study (and will continue when we move on to Ephesians). ‘So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above…….’
A Christian cannot be someone static, content with where they are. We are called always onwards and upwards, to explore, study and deepen our faith. This also, of course, as we are often reminded in the Scriptures, involves pruning, cutting off those things which have outgrown their usefulness and no longer bear fruit as they should. Whilst this is not ever comfortable it is necessary, even vital.
Give us grace, good God, to live, grow and be more effective in your service.
Peace and joy,
