How many words would it take for you to describe yourself to a stranger? Well, here comes my take on me for you … mostly harmless. “Not enough!”, you say? “What does it mean?”, I hear you ask.
‘Mostly harmless’ is a quote from the comic sci-fi novel, “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”. So there is a clue: I love Science Fiction and I love comedy, dry or slapstick.
As for pedigree, my Dad was a silent Yorkshireman, silent as in ‘still waters run deep’. That deep reflection he passed on to me. He met a feisty Welsh girl (aren’t they all?) during WW2, whilst he was training to be a medic at St David’s Hospital in Cardiff. They married after the war and along came me, my sister Maggy and my sister Babs. My sisters are responsible for the lights in my life after Jesus, my four nieces.
Work ended for me at midnight on the 31st December 1999, as it says on my ‘Early Retirement Agreement’ paperwork. So I haven’t done a stroke of work this century! Well, except for 9 years as Lay Reader in the East Vale Group of parishes.
Work used to be with BT as an IT Wizard, which is another set of clues: I’m a gadget and computer freak! I built my own games computer, where I fly WW1 aircraft and fight dragons in caves and dungeons! And, as I am a ‘geek’! I sometimes use this Avatar in place of my image…it’s still me!
In my curacy I am keen to learn – at Philip’s feet and at yours. Yes, yours! Us humans are all unique individuals. My belief is that the best way to learn about each other is by being with each other. I’m looking forward to seeing you soon for a chat!
