St John’s Summer Fayre Presentation Night

Andrew Singer, Chairman of the St Johns Church Summer Fayre Committee presented Ruth Birch, Peoples’ Warden of the Parish of Newton Nottage Porthcawl with a cheque for £9,730.87 in respect of the money raised at the Summer Fayre in July during an evening in the Schoolroom. Ruth accepted the cheque on behalf of the Parish and thanked everyone who had worked so hard to make the Fayre a success.

The Summer Fayre took place in glorious sunshine on Newton Green. Hundreds of people attended the event and helped raise the money for the upkeep of the 800 year old parish church of St John the Baptist. Andrew said that the committee was so grateful for their support.

The Fayre was opened by Tom Jones aka Dean Jones and entertainment came from the Rock Choir, Porthcawl Community Orchestra, Elindia’s Belly Dancers, Magician Loopy Lews, The Performance House Youth Group and The Tug of War competition between the Ancient Briton and the Jolly Sailor.  Ancient Briton team were victorious in the Ladies event and the Jolly Sailor team won the Men’s contest. .
